I moved to sweden in 2022, although I had try to learn via the internet about how the country and the job market works , it turns out my understanding was very limited. Having the right qualification was not enough, I needed guidance, and someone who had already walked the path I was trying to navigate.

Meeting my mentor was a turning point, I learned how to present my skills in a way that resonated with Swedish employers, how to tailor my CV and LinkedIn profile, how to approach interviews and even referred me for relevant roles. My mentor also helped me understand workplace culture, expectations, and how to strategically apply for roles that aligned with my education and experience.

The encouragement and honest feedback I received made a huge difference. It helped me stay focused, resilient, and intentional during my job search. That guidance eventually paid off, I was able to secure a role after completing my master’s programme.

Looking back, mentorship didn’t just help me find a job; it helped me find clarity, direction, and confidence in a new country. I truly believe that having a mentor can accelerate growth and open doors or rare opportunities.

Arriving in Sweden as an immigrant, I quickly discovered how challenging it could be to enter the local job market—from cultural differences to the demand for "Swedish experience." Determined to move forward, I took on two unpaid internships, eager to gain hands-on skills and prove my value in a new environment.

A turning point in my journey came when a friend—who became a mentor—recommended a professional course tailored to my background and career goals. That single piece of advice gave me the direction and confidence I needed, and it opened the door to my first real opportunity.

Today, I work as a Business Financial Analyst for a global company.
